Club & Societies

Co-curricular activities along with classroom environment help the students to integrate the vital aspects of an individual (student) - the body, mind and soul. With the above objectives in mind, various clubs and societies have been constituted under the guidance of the able teachers. Students are advised to join at least one of the clubs and respective subject societies. A student with mere bookish knowledge and nothing else is a misfit in today`s society and hardly acceptable to any job offering agency.


Drama

In an attempt to bring out the latent talent in the students, the college offers ample opportunities through the Dramatic Club to students by providing the suitable platform. The college has a rich heritage of theatrical activities being conducted from time-to-time, thus, enhancing the skills of the students and grooming them to attain wholesome personalities. The college has to its credit the performances like Fitrati Chor, The Parrot's Training, Everyman-A Morality Play, The Glass Menagerie, Antigone, Kabira Khdaa Bazar Main, etc. where the young actors have showcased matchless performances and enthralled the audiences and spectators with their immaculate style. The club also performs in various functions of the institution around the academic sessions.

The Dramatic Club conducted One-Month Theatre Workshop from September 05, 2017 to October 05, 2017 in the college campus. Fifty enthusiastic actors articulated their feelings, emotions, thus, giving expression to their innermost creative urge. The artistes were on the cruise of their life, amassing extraordinarily inimitable experiences. The workshop on theatre basics proved to be a new trend setting event for the institution as the young vibrant actors penned down the dialogues of the play on their own, thus, learning the nuances of the script writing. The Club follows the tag line: The Show Must Go on and on..

Literary

Literary Society has been constituted in the college where Departments of English, Hindi and Sanskrit conduct various activities ranging from regular seminars, presentations by the students and functions on the birth anniversaries of famous writers and authors.

Department of English commemorated Wiliam Shakespeare's birth anniversary in April. The students enacted the scenes from the prescribed text "As You Like It." The students shared the book marks with famous quotes creatively made by them.

During the current session, Department of English organized "A Two-Days Seminar on May15-16, 2017. Professor V.P. Sharma, (Retd. Professor from HPU) was the Chief Guest and Shri Manoj Kumar, Assistant Professor, Govt. College Sunni were invited as the speaker. The post-graduate students presented their papers on various topics related to their curriculum. Professor, V.P. Sharma encouraged the students to develop the close reading of the text and Shri Manoj Kumar emphasized on four skills of the language-Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Dr.JaneshKapoor, Head of the Department, talked about the text and its reading and touched upon the nuances of literature.

Sangeet

The college has Sangeet Kala Manch and it contributes in all the cultural functions of the college. Sangeet Kala Manch celebrates the birth anniversary of the greatest singers like Kishore Kumar, Mohd. Rafi. The students and teachers enjoy the memorable songs of the noted singers.

Chudamani, a student of B.A.III, fetched Highly Commended Prize in Classical Vocal in HPU Youth Festival, Group II held at Govt. College, Chamba.
The students of the college under the guidance of Dr. Prem Lal and Dr. Vinod Sharma won Commended Prize in Folk Dance in HP University Youth Festival, held at Govt. College, Ghumarwin.

Red Ribbon

The college has Red Ribbon Club and the main function of the club is to spread awareness regarding AIDS. The club conducts various programmes like declamation, slogan writing, Poster-Making contests specifically on the topic? "Importance of AIDS Awareness in Educational Institutions". The students actively participate in the AIDS awareness rally from the college to the bus-stand every year.

Wonder Science

Wonder Science Club purports to encourage and ignite the imagination of the students and to broaden their understanding through its activities. The club celebrated National Science Day on December 16. Major J.C. Patial, SDM, Karsog was the Chief Guest of the function and he delivered a talk on the subthemes- Expanding Horizon of Science, Global Warming and Climate Change, Non-Conventional Energy Sources. A documentary-A Blue Planet was shown to the students. The students showed keen participation in Quiz, Declamation competitions

The Humboldt Club, Department of Geography, organized its function on December 09. Besides, the cultural programme, Quiz, Declamation, Mehandi and Rangoli competitions were organized by the club and students showed active participation in it.

Save Energy

The Save Energy Club of the college organized its function on 10th March 2012. This was the first year that workshop presentations took place and students had a great showing.

The Eco Club has been established in the college in order to sensitise the students about the environment.

A mock-drill on disaster management was organised in the college by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in which about thirty NSS volunteers also participated in the mock-drill. The main thrust of the programme was to sensitise the students and equip them to meet the disasters like earthquake, etc.

A One- Day National Conference on "Ethics in Business and Economics" was organised in the college on December 30, 2017 under the aegis of Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR), North-Western Regional Centre, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh Commerce Management Association (HPCMA). More than 60 teachers and scholars participated in the conference.

An Annual Talk was arranged for the students on February 23, 2018. The practice of Annual Talk was initiated in the current session for campus enrichment. Dr. Kamal Kant, Retired Principal of the college shared his views on the purpose of education and learning outcomes with the staff and students. He narrated some anecdotes of his life and quoted Swami Vivekananda and told the students to focus on their goal. He enumerated Warren Buffet's five ways for Healthy Living.

Political Science Society prepares the students for debate and deliberation on topics of national and international importance and provides a platform to the students where they get an opportunity to hone their knowledge practically. The society conducts quiz, declamation and panel discussion, etc. to equip the students with latest trends in political arena in and around the world.

The Political Science Society organized its maiden function in the college on February 25, 2018 in the College Hall. The main theme of the function was "Indian Politics". The programme initiated with the declamation contest where the participants expressed their views on the topic "Indian Foreign Policy' and the convener of the society, Mr. Kamlesh Kumar delivered a talk on the topic entitled "Indian Politics in Post-Independence Period". A quiz competition was also conducted on the theme of the function.
